The inlaid wood panel at “Gli Intarsi” restaurant inside the Conca Park Sorrento Hotel was created thanks to an incredibly high number of inlaid pieces, estimated to be tens of thousands, and the remarkable size of this panel makes it the largest work ever prepared in Sorrento. There are over one hundred rigorously natural essences.
The work was prepared in 1990, fruit of the Sorrentine Maestro, Rocco Giuseppe ’s, incomparable passion for this work and the precious collaboration of his brother, Franco.
The actual design was invented by Vincenzo Stinga, an artist, and in synthesis represents the place which gave its name to the hotel.
“Conca” was for a number of centuries the place where the waters of the “Neffola” spring collected.
Back in Roman times it served a water duct but in the Romantic period (18th century) thanks to the font the Conca becomes, for the young ladies in Sorrento, the meeting place for sentimental liaisons and inspiration for love stories and poetry.
The drawing scheme reproduces, with all due fantasy, the present hotel swimming pool in the form of a terrace.
Worthy of note is the fact that the typical copper recipient used by the women at the water font, are also known as Conca” in our local dialect.
